Georginio Wijnaldum's Goal Against Huddersfield Adds to a Bittersweet Premier League Record

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum's time in England has earned him a very bittersweet accolade over the last few seasons - standing head and shoulders above his competitors when it comes to scoring exclusively at home.

Since moving to Newcastle at the start of the 2015/16 season, the Dutchman has racked up 18 Premier League goals for both the Magpies and Liverpool - all of which have come at either St James' Park or Anfield - making him as the highest scoring player to have exclusively found the back of the net only on home soil.

In fact, Wijnaldum has double the amount of goals as Clive Wilson (second in the list), who only ever managed nine in total.

The only two other players still active in the Premier League come in the form of Everton's Oumar Niasse (seven goals) and Swansea's Martin Olsson (six)​.

Wijnaldum now travels to the London Stadium at the weekend in hope of ending his streak of home goals.

The 26-year-old found the back of the net for the first time this season in the Reds' 3-0 victory over Huddersfield (of course, at Anfield) - and despite playing the same home matches as he has away in his Premier League career (41), he's much more deadly at home - having attempted 83 shots compared to 37 on the road.

Speaking after his first goal for the season, Wijnaldum seems eager to kick on for the rest of the campaign - and will be hoping to finally end his barren run of away games.

“It's always a good feeling to score a goal, especially a beautiful goal at the Kop end. It was also my first of the season so I hope more will follow, but it's always nice to score a goal.” he told Liverpool's official website.
