Barcelona are reportedly preparing to offer Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain an eye-watering deal to sign their star midfielder Marco Verratti. The five-time Champions League winners are believed to be willing to offer PSG £60m, as well as their Croatian midfield star Ivan Rakitić. Barça are seemingly determined to bring the Italian to the Camp Nou by any means necessary.

According to reports from SPORT, the Catalan side have made the 24-year-old a key target this summer, after they look to recover from a season where the La Liga giants wer beaten to the league title by their arch-rivals Real Madrid. The player-plus-cash deal would be a huge outgoing for Barça, but the club believe the long-term benefits of signing Verratti would make the deal viable.

PSG have publicly expressed their desire to hold on to their club talisman this summer, and have made no secret of the fact that they will rebuke any offers made for the talented midfielder. However, an offer including one of the finest midfielders in Europe, Ivan Rakitić, is bound to cause the Parisian giants to ponder potential transfer business with Barcelona this summer.

The deal could also set in motion the wheels of the biggest transfer saga of the summer: The future of Monaco wonderkid Kylian Mbappé. If PSG were to sell Verratti, they would have an improved transfer budget with no need to reinvest it in a new central midfielder. Mbappé is believed to favour a move to PSG, despite interest from the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal.

Verratti earned a move to PSG in 2012, after breaking into the first team of his boyhood club Pescara and playing a pivotal role in three successful campaigns, including a promotion to Serie A in 2012. The Italian international has gone on to win four league titles with PSG, becoming one of the most coveted young midfielders in world football.

The creativity, agility and dribbling skills of the player have made him a highly sought after talent, with Europe's elite clubs clamouring to obtain the services of the 5ft 5 mini-maestro. Much like a young Andrea Pirlo, Verratti's passing abilities allow him to dictate the pace of the game, making him an ideal signing for a Barcelona - who are notorious for their possession-style of play.
