Swansea Tell Everton to Improve Offer After Rejecting £27m Bid for Midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson
Everton have been told by Swansea to improve on their rejected £27m bid for midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
ESPN have reported that Everton have had their first bid rejected, although the former Spurs man could be tempted by European football.
The Toffees have already spent a total of £58.4m on Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez, and could be forced to break the £100m mark to sign Sigurdsson.
Swans chairman Huw Jenkins last week claimed that Sigurdsson is "priceless" to Swansea, and that the club will fight to keep their star player.
He said: “It’s hard to suggest what sort of value Gylfi has in today’s market but to us he is priceless and we’ve got to make sure we do everything in our power to make sure he stays.
"Our aim is to try and keep Gylfi, keep our better players and to make sure we can add to Paul's [Clement] squad."
The move for Sigurdsson has reportedly left Ross Barkley's future in doubt, particularly after the recent arrival of playmaker Klaassen from Ajax.
The 23-year-old reportedly wants more first team football to ensure that he is in Gareth Southgate's England squad for next summer's World Cup.
Sigurdsson, meanwhile, is in demand after an impressive season with the Swans last campaign.
"I signed a new contract in the summer and I've got three years left," he said last month. "So it's down to the club if they want to sell me. But I was very happy when I was on loan here and then again in the last three years.
"I'm not trying to leave, I'm not desperate to go or anything."
The 27-year-old scored nine goals and provided 13 assists in the Premier League as Swansea narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship.
