Borussia Dortmund could make a surprise move for Roma's Leandro Paredes this summer, according to reports in Italy.

Sky Italia (via Bild) have alleged that the midfielder could become a target for the DfB Pokal Cup winners in the close season following the departure of ex-Roma boss Luciano Spalletti to Serie A rivals Inter Milan.

Dortmund, who have their own new manager in Peter Bosz after Thomas Tuchel was sent packing from his position at the Westfalenstadion, could now make a move for Paredes. They would, however, have to stump up around £22m to prise him away from the Stadio Olimpico.

Paredes was a man in demand earlier in the season, with Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all mooted as possible destinations for the 22-year-old. Now, however, Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg - who saw an offer for the I Giallorossi star knocked back - and Serie A rivals Juventus are believed to be in the running for him.

It is Dortmund who are the latest name to emerge as supposed frontrunners for the Argentina international though, despite Die Borussia having a strong contingent of centre midfielders already present at the club.

Dortmund already boast the likes of Julia Weigl - currently sidelined through injury - as well as Sebastien Rode, Nuri Sahin and Gonzalo Castro among seven options in the centre of the park, and Bosz would surely have to sell one or two of his current squad members to facilitate a space for Paredes.

Ex-Boca Juniors youth product Paredes initially joined Roma on a six-month loan from the Argentinian outfit and, after enjoying that brief jaunt to Rome, completed a £5m switch to Italy's top flight that summer.

He was subsequently loaned out to fellow Italian side Empoli to help bring his game on, and featured 33 times for I Azzurri before returning from his season-long temporary switch to become a mainstay in Roma'a starting lineup last term.

Paredes made 43 appearances in all competitions in 2016/17, and bagged three goals in the process.
