Diego Simeone is keen on strengthening his Atletico Madrid side with the acquisition of versatile PSV midfielder Andres Guardado.
Guardado, who spent three years in Spain with Deportivo La Coruna and Valencia, could now be set for a return to La Liga with Los Rojiblancos.
According to a report by AS, Simeone admires Guardado's versatility. The Mexican is capable of playing anywhere on the left flank as well as in central midfield, so could therefore provide cover for a number of players.
It is understood that Simeone was impressed by Guardado's ability when the two sides played each other in the Champions League.
Simeone is determined to add to his squad this summer, as he looks to have a strong first season in the club's new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
Following Theo Hernandez's transfer for Real Madrid, Atletico are looking for cover on the left hand side, and in particular for Brazilian full-back Filipe Luis. Guardado actually played with Luis at Deportivo.
Atletico's biggest piece of transfer business will be trying to keep hold of Antoine Griezmann. The French forward has been long coveted by Manchester United, and there are strong rumours that Griezmann is ready to switch to Old Trafford this summer.
