You could almost pinpoint the exact moment Cesc Fabregas' heart broke...
The Spanish playmaker proved to everyone in the aftermath of Monday night's game with Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge how much making an assist genuinely means to him - after of course, proving to everyone how brilliant a creative footballer he is first and foremost.
Cesc Fabregas' hilarious reaction to being told he didn't get the assist for Costa's goal — BeanymanSports (@BeanymanSports) 8 May 2017
The ex-Arsenal man appeared to set up Diego Costa to open the scoring in the first half, taking his tally of assists for the season to 10.
In the second half, he also set up Nemanja Matic's goal, but such are the powers that be, his first for Costa's effort was harshly chalked off due to a touch from Boro full-back Fabio, and it was down to Monday Night Football host Dave Jones to deliver the bad news in the post-match interview.
The 30-year-old tried to correct Jones after he told him he had made 10 assists in 11 starts and referred to his pass to Nemanja Matic.
The presenter was quickly forced to inform him that it was in actual fact his seemingly perfect assist to Costa that had been chalked off, to which Fabregas hilariously responded 'WHAT? No Chance, that was meant for Costa all day long! I'm taking this one', complete with a look of utter bemusement.
Cesc Fabregas is the first player with 10+ assists in six different Premier League Seasons.— Squawka Football (@Squawka) 8 May 2017
His blow was at least offset by the fact that he had been voted man of the match, to which he accepted the trophy - no doubt still reeling from his assist injustice.
One can only wonder if he has an assist bonus at Chelsea and what that could possibly earn him, but that's now 10 assists or more in six different Premier League campaigns for the former Barcelona man. Not bad going at all.
