Arsenal are looking to sign Atletico Madrid's star full back Sime Vrsaljko, as a contingency replacement for Hector Bellerin, who is rumoured to be set for a return to Barcelona in the summer.
Bellerin joined the Gunners' youth team from the Barcelona youth side back in 2011 and while he has impressed since making his way into the main squad, he has been heavily linked with a move back to the Nou Camp.
This was only increased further when Spanish outlet Don Balon reported Lionel Messi had urged his club to make an offer for the right-back in a bid to fill the hole left by Dani Alves. While Bellerin did sign a new six-and-half-year deal in November, Barcelona are not shying away from the £42m asking price.
With the Spaniard potentially on the way out boss Arsene Wenger has taken no time in finding his replacement which has come in the form of Atletico Madrid's Vrsaljko, according to Transfermarketweb.
The Croatian only joined Atletico Madrid at the start of the season from Italian club Sassuolo and while he has been playing primarily as a backup for Juanfran, he has impressed during the 25 appearances he has made for the club in all competitions.
His contract will keep him at the La Liga side until 2021 and it is not only Arsenal who have shown an interest with Napoli also making him a potential signing in the summer.
Bellerin however did state at the start of this week that he will be remaining at Arsenal, when speaking with IBTimesUK, but the lure of rejoining his former club at the senior level could prove too tempting.
