It hasn't been an easy ride for Paul Pogba since his return to Manchester United for a world record £89m from Juventus last summer.

But against Anderlecht last night, he took a giant step towards securing United fan's hearts as he produced a miracle pass to Marcus Rashford as part of the build-up for Henrik Mkhitaryan's opening goal against the Belgian minnows.

United took the lead in the 10th minute thanks to the Armenian, who fired past Anderlecht goalkeeper Rubén Iván Martínez following a short pass from the in-form Marcus Rashford.

However, it was Pogba’s ‘pre-assist’ that made United fans on social media explode with joy.

The France international produced a neat bit of skill to get past Youri Tielemans before hitting an inch-perfect 50-yard pass into Rashford’s path.

Judging by fans' reactions on Twitter, you could be forgiven for thinking Pogba had just discovered a cure for cancer.

But for all their hyperbole, United fans can be forgiven in this instance as Pogba's pass was truly a thing off beauty.

The Manchester club will need him to continue in this rich vein of form for the remainder of the season as they continue their pursuit for Champions League football down two separate avenues.

They have been drawn against Celta Vigo in the Europa League semi-finals while if they win all their remaining Premier League fixtures, they will finish in the top four as well.
