Chelsea are edging closer to the signing of highly-Rated Toulouse defender Issa Diop, according to reports.

The 20-year-old centre-half has been heavily linked with a Premier League move in the past, with both Arsenal and Spurs reportedly being keen.

Both north-London clubs had reportedly sent scouts to assess the youngster, but their attempt at signing him has been thwarted by Premier League leaders Chelsea, who are 'on the verge' of completing a summer transfer, according to the Mirror.

Negotiations to bring the towering centre-half to Stamford Bridge are reportedly underway, with a £15m fee being discussed between clubs.

Chelsea need to add defensive reinforcements this summer in order to deal with John Terry's potential exit.

Six-feet-four Diop would be perfect for the Blues, who also have 20-year-old defender Andreas Christensen returning from a two-year loan spell at Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach.

Diop has made 24 appearances for Toulouse so far this season, scoring twice and providing two assists as well as picking up six yellow cards.
