Chelsea centre-back Gary Cahill says his side are still in a great position in the Premier League title race, despite their surprise loss against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Blues took the lead through Cesc Fabregas, but Palace responded quickly, scoring through Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke and holding out for a crucial win, boosting their own survival hopes.

With Tottenham beating Burnley, Chelsea's lead at the top of the table has been reduced to seven points, but Cahill believes his side are still well placed to win the Premier League despite Saturday's disappointing result.

"First of all we’re disappointed," Cahill told Chelsea's official website.

"We had a chance to chalk another game off and get three more points at home where we’ve been so strong this season.

"On a different day maybe we would have won the game. We’ve put ourselves in a healthy position in the league and the gap is still there."

Cahill believes the loss has put an extra emphasis on Chelsea's midweek tie against Manchester City, and he called upon his teammates to rise above the pressure.

"If we’d got the result against Crystal Palace it would have eased the pressure but not getting the result adds to the pressure," Cahill added.

"Sometimes players respond better to that and let’s hope that’s the case.

"We’re disappointed but it’s a time to stay calm, re-focus and go again. Things have been going very well for us this season the majority of the time but it wasn’t to be. It’s a big game on Wednesday for everyone."
