Former Liverpool winger Stan Collymore has advised Jurgen Klopp to sell Philippe Coutinho this summer, criticising the playmaker's inconsistent form.

The 24-year-old has struggled to recapture form from earlier in the season since the turn of the year, scoring just once in his last 15 appearances.

With Liverpool star duo Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino earning the plaudits in recent weeks, Coutinho has fallen by the wayside and Collymore believes his time at Anfield is up.

"Coutinho is a great six games a season player, when we all salute his little genius, goals and creativity and I know he’s been injured but I’m just not sure Liverpool will ever be able to hang their hat on him to guarantee big performances week in week out," Collymore wrote in his Boylesport column.

"The fact Lallana and Mane have kicked on under Klopp so much more than the little Brazilian tells my intuition that if one of the Iberian giants were to tickle the Reds fancy, even having signed a bumper contract and get a more dominating physical presence, like Mane in that attacking three.

"Controversial I know but Phil just isn’t that consistent!"

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked with the Brazil international over the past few seasons, and if a bid comes in this summer Collymore reckons Klopp should cash in and sell him before his stock reduces.

Liverpool battled Manchester City in a hard-fought 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, a result that sees Liverpool retain fourth spot, one point behind City and four points ahead of Man Utd, who have two games in hand.
