Dimitar Berbatov who previously set the Premier League on fire with several clubs could be set for an incredible return to English football by joining non-league Salford City, report the Sun.

The former Tottenham, Fulham and Manchester United striker has been without a club since he left Greek side PAOK last summer, but he has insisted on many occasions that he hasn’t retired and a shock move to Salford has been spreading.

Berbatov attended the National League North match when Salford played Stockport on Saturday, which ended 1-1, and his presence could indicate a move as he weighs up his new team.

With former United players Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Phil Neville owning the non-league side, Berbatov could easily get himself signed up at the club - but with 94 Premier League goals it wouldn’t really take a lot of convincing anyway!

While its more likely that he was invited to the game to catch up - what with the owners attending the majority of their sides home games - Salford fans can’t help but be cautiously excited at the prospect of a world class finisher in their team.

Even if the striker was just attending as a spectator, the owners are very likely to try and bend his arm for a couple of matches at least.
