Arsenal legend Robert Pires has claimed that Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann would learn more at Arsenal than Manchester United.

The 25-year-old France international has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his squad for next season's title challenge. Ex-Gunners midfielder Pires has suggested though, that the transfer to United is not set in stone and that Griezmann may benefit more from a move to the Emirates.

As reported by the Metro, via Goal, Pires said: "I think it is just speculation for now that Griezmann is joining Manchester United, just rumours. Why could we not see him at Arsenal?"

Pires, who now coaches at Arsenal, also went on to suggest that his fellow countryman would be able to further enhance his game in London, due to the type of manager and players that the Gunners possess.

He added: "I think he has a good profile for Arsenal. I think he can learn a lot from (Arsene) Wenger, with (Mesut) Ozil, Alexis (Sanchez), (Santi) Cazorla. Fingers crossed.

"You have to buy good players for the fans and you have to spend a lot of money. This is the new football."

Griezmann's potential move to Old Trafford has looked increasingly likely in recent months - his brother has teased United fans with a series of tweets which have shown his admiration for the club, hinting that his brother may opt for a move there. The Atletico striker's friendship with compatriot Paul Pogba is also thought to be an influencing factor, should the potential deal take place.

Griezmann has often brushed aside questions regarding his future this season, but a move away from Atletico is expected if his £86m buyout clause is met. The French international has 18 goals in 36 appearances so far this season.
