Italian football journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed on Twitter that Arsenal sent scouts to watch Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne on Sunday, during the Serie A side's 3-1 victory over Chievo.

Insigne was able to get on the scoresheet, as well as laying on an assist for Piotr Zielinski, as Napoli continued their pursuit of Juventus, at the top of the table.

The diminutive Italian also scored a wonderful goal in the Champions League last week, against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu. Napoli went on to lose the match, but Insigne was praised highly for his skill and creativity, as he and his teammates went down fighting against Los Blancos.

The 25 year old has been pivotal to Napoli's campaign this season, aiding their efforts with nine goals and eight assists across all competitions.

Napoli have earned a lot of plaudits for their fluid, attacking style of play this season, under manager Mauricio Sarri. The effectiveness of Insigne, and his attacking partners Dries Mertens and jose Callejon have seen Napoli embark on a rich vein of form, including a lengthy unbeaten run.

Insigne still has become an integral part of the club, since arriving as a youth prospect in 2010, and progressing through the ranks.

He currently has two and a half years left on his current deal, but with the futures of Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez still causing a lot of speculation, Arsenal may well look to the Italian sooner rather than later, to bolster their attacking options.
