Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of midfielder Thomas Partey to a new deal, which should see him remain with the La Liga side until 2022.

The 23-year-old Ghana international came up through the club's ranks, starting with their reserves after signing from local side Odometah FC in 2011.

He made his first-team debut in a match against Espanyol in 2015, and has made 31 appearances for the senior side in total.

A statement on Atletico's official website reads: "Thomas Partey has renewed his contract with our club until 2022. The Ghanaian midfielder, who came to the red and white club in 2011, extends his link for three more seasons."

"I am very happy with my new contract and grateful for the faith shown in me," the midfielder declared after penning his new deal.

"I have always been very fond of this club and I want to keep on developing at Atletico. I will give everything for this club."
