Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has shown his frustration with life at Anfield after being frozen out of the team by manager Jurgen Klopp, but salvation looks to be close at hand.

The Frenchman was enjoying a good end to last season, showing decent form under the German, but things turned upside down after he was hit with a UEFA ban following accusations of contravening anti-doping regulations.

The player was absolved of wrongdoing thereafter, but hasn't been able to enjoy his football, as a series of off-field events led to a falling out with Klopp. The manager has said that Sakho has no future at the club, so it's unlikely he will still be there when the transfer window closes at the end of January.

The BBC are reporting that the Reds will demand a fee upwards of £20m if the defender is to move, as they feel that, despite his status at the club, he is still a talented defender.

Galatasaray, Valencia and Sevilla are all thought to be interested, but according to The Sun, the player wants to move to Southampton.

We are all used to seeing players move the other way, with the club having snatched the likes of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren and Sadio Mane from the St Mary's side.

However, Sakho is thought to be keen on working with compatriot and new Saints boss Claude Puel and wants to reverse the trend. The manager is also desperate to get a defender to replace Jose Fonte, who handed in a transfer request last week, as he aims for a decent finish to the season.

Match made in heaven then?
