Sheffield Wednesday's Jose Semedo has shocked his teammates by proving he is best friends with Cristiano Ronaldo after face timing the star on their festive trip to Amsterdam in November.

Hours after the side beat Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship, coach Carlos Carvalhal flew his side out to Holland for a small break to recuperate for the busy Christmas fixture list.

And according to the Daily Mail, Semedo's teammates Barry Bannan and Steven Fletcher were jokingly asking him to ring the Real Madrid star to prove they were such good friends, thinking he would say no. But Semedo took them up on the offer, and gave them the shock of their lives.

"Barry and Steven Fletcher were asking me to ring Cristiano. They thought I'd say no, no, let's not do that," Semedo said.

"So I FaceTimed him. They knew we were friends, but didn't really realise how close we are."

The Portuguese Ballon d'Or winner had a friendly chat with the two Wednesday players, wishing them good luck in their bid to win promotion to the Premier League and said he would like to come and visit their home ground Hillsborough: "They couldn't believe it," Semedo added.

"He was talking to them normally, like he knows Bannan or Fletcher like a friend. It was crazy, they couldn't believe it. 'Oh my God, I'm talking to Ronaldo'.

"I hope he can make it over, I want him to come for the fans. I want them to see Ronaldo, a huge star, step on to their pitch."

The pair met in Sporting Lisbon's academy and still set a week aside every summer for their families to holiday.

"I see Ronaldo as a proper brother," continued Semedo. "We've grown up together. He doesn't think he would ever have reached the level he has, but believes it's down to our mentality not to give up on anything."
