Even though New York City FC failed to reach the 2016 MLS Cup Final this season, at least the franchise will have the honor of having the reigning MVP ahead of the 2017 season.

During an official ceremony, it was announced that NYCFC striker David Villa received the Landon Donovan MVP Award.

The Spaniard topped Sacha Kljestan and Bradley Wright-Phillips, both from New York Red Bulls, on the race for the Award.

Villa had an impressive season with NYCFC, playing at top of the attack and becoming the main offensive weapon for Patrick Vieira's side. The former FC Barcelona star netted 23 goals and added four assists in 33 matches.

Here are some of Villa's best moments over the past 2016 season.

An impressive award for an impressive player, that's for sure.
