Week 30 of MLS has come and gone, and we're quickly approaching the end of the regular season. As it has been a trend all season long, we are now presenting you the top three players over the past weekend.
3. Dax McCarty - New York Red Bulls
The New York Red Bulls skipper was instrumental for the team's success this past weekend, assisting on two goals and scoring the game-winner against the Philadelphia Union in a pivotal match to keep NYRB's chances to reach the top of the Eastern Conference alive. McCarty has always stepped his game up when it matters most, and Saturday was no different.
2. David Villa - New York City FC
Just like Dax McCarty, David Villa came up big for New York City FC when the team needed it the most. The Spaniard netted a brace during his side's 2-0 win over Houston Dynamo this past Friday, and moved to a tie for the top spot of the Golden Boot Race with Bradley Wright-Phillips. Villa might be past his prime, but there's no question he remains a key player for the New York-based franchise.
1. Lamar Neagle - DC United
No team has been hotter than DC United over the last month. They went from being almost out of the playoffs, to a few points away from securing a postseason berth. Lamar Neagle was pivotal to the team this past week, as he contributed with three goals and an assist in two matches, while DCU collected six points to strengthen their case for a playoff spot in the East.
