Liverpool appear set to bolster their defensive options, with manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly interested in bringing Aston Villa's Jordan Amavi to Anfield.

According to Le Parisien, Get French Football report that Amavi could become Klopp's sixth summer signing as he looks to mould a team around his 'geggenpressing' style of play.

Whilst the French defender's club succumbed to a disappointing Premier League season that resulted in relegation, Amavi began the season in fine form.

In 10 league appearances for the club, Amavi produced 40 crosses, two of which were converted by his teammates.

With target men Divock Origi and Christian Benteke within Klopp's ranks, Amavi's delivery from wide areas could kick start both of the strikers' careers on Merseyside.

Whilst the Villa defender began the season well, he suffered a long-term injury and was unable to build upon the fine start he had made to life in England.

The Reds interest in Amavi comes just a day after th completed the signing of Augsburg full-back Ragnar Klavan in a £4.2m deal.

Amavi would become Klopp's third defensive acquisition after Joel Matip also arrived at Anfield following the conclusion of his contract with German side Schalke.

Meanwhile there are doubts over the long-term future of current  defender Alberto Moreno under Jurgen Klopp. Despite scoring in Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town, the Spaniard's credentials have been questioned following Klopp's search for new full-backs.

The German manager appears to be reshaping his defensive line in this his first summer in charge of the club following his arrival in October 2015.

Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure and Jose Enrique have all left the club this summer as the Reds target a return to European football.
