Analyzing the Hottest Transfer Rumors Around MLS

The MLS transfer window is officially open and, as expected, several teams are beginning to test the market, although some franchises are far more active than others. Here we recap some of the biggest transfer rumors around MLS this past week.

11. Alvaro Fernandez Set for Seattle Sounders Return?

Uruguayan midfielder Alvaro Fernandez has played for Seattle Sounders twice in his career, and there's no doubt he enjoyed some of his best moments in CenturyLink Field. The veteran winger is not the player he once was, and he's been playing in a more central role of late, but he can still be an impact player. According to reports, Fernandez would be interesting in leaving Gimnasia La Plata to join Seattle in the coming weeks.

10. Atlanta United Keeps Tracking the Transfer Market

Atlanta United remains one of the most active teams in the market. Even though the expansion side isn't going to play until the 2017 MLS season, they have targeted several players to join the franchise next year. Their latest target is Bruno Soriano, a member of the Spain National Team who played for Villarreal last year.

9. Rubens Sambueza Eyeing MLS Move?

An Argentinian mifielder who's also a Mexican citizen, Rubens Sambueza is one of the biggest stars of Club America in Liga MX. His contract, however, will run out next year, and he's already planning his next move. The former River Plate star evidenced a few days ago he'd be interested in playing MLS before calling it a career. He'd certainly be an impact player.

8. Nicolas Lodeiro Set to Sign with MLS Team on Monday...Apparently

Nicolas Lodeiro has been linked with a move to MLS during the last two months, but chances are the Uruguayan midfielder will finally move stateside in the coming days. According to Boca Juniors' chairman, Lodeiro is set to join Seattle Sounders as there was an agreement in the transfer fee. Only minor details need to be completed for the deal to be announced.

7. Orlando City SC Signs Uruguayan Defender to One-Year Loan Deal

José Aja has been one of the best center backs in the Uruguayan Primera Division, and he was linked with a move to Europe in the coming weeks, but Orlando City SC managed to sign him before he decided to join elsewhere. The 23-year-old has a bright future ahead of him, and he agreed to a one-year loan deal with Orlando.

6. FC Dallas Looking to Bolster Their Attack

FC Dallas has arguably been one of the best teams in MLS this season, but they're looking to bolster their attack. They're looking for a striker to partner up with Maxi Urruti, and the management has set its sights in two players: Guilio Ebagua y Getterson. Both players are coming off different seasons, though. Ebagua was one of the best players for Vicenza in the Italian Serie B, while Getterson signed a deal to join Sao Paulo, but was fired during his first day with the team.

5. Matteo Mancosu Signs With Montreal Impact

Mancosu was mentioned last week as a likely signng for Montreal Impact, but this time he's mentioned as a confirmed deal. The former Carpi striker has plenty of top-flight experience in the Italian Serie A, and at the very least he would be a decent back-up for Didier Drogba and Dominic Oduro.

4. Several European Sides Targeting Cyle Larin

Cyle Larin has been one of the most prolific strikers in MLS this past two years, so there's no surprise he's attracting interest from Europe. According to reports, teams from Italy, England and Norway have already asked Orlando City SC about him. Will he stay with the team until the end of the season?

3. Oscar Cardozo's Agent Speaks About Potential MLS Move

Oscar Cardozo continues to look for a new team, and he's looking to leave Turkey as soon as possible. The Paraguayan striker - who was pretty prolific playing for Benfica a few years ago - hasn't said anything about a possible move, but his agent talked to the media and said that "Tacuara is pretty interested in playing in MLS next year". With several American sides looking for strikers, there could be a lot of interest to sign him.

2. Erick 'Cubo' Torres On His Way Out of MLS?

Erick 'Cubo' Torres was considered one of the best prospects in Mexico a few years ago, but it seems his development has stalled in recent years. The 23-year-old striker was named to the Olympic Mexican team and, according to reports, the Houston Dynamo would be interested in selling him, so they are likely to use the Olympic stage as the perfect scenario to sell him.

1. Andrés Guardado Speaks About Joining MLS Next Season

Andres Guardado left the door open for a potential move to MLS in 2017. The Mexican star talked to media this week and mentioned that, if any MLS team asks about him, he would be pretty interested in signing a deal. Atlanta United FC has been his biggest suitor, and all signs point towards him playing in U.S. soil next year.
