Aston Villa look set for a mass exodus this summer, with Carles Gil's agent confirming the Spaniard's desire to depart the club in search for a higher standard of football.
The midfielder failed to nail down a regular first-team spot during Villa's dismal campaign, which saw the club relegated from the Premier League with a measly 18 points.
His agent, Federico Marco, has made it clear that Gil will not follow the Villains into the Championship and will instead seek to find a new club.
El Desmarque are reporting that one of these interested clubs could be Spanish side Celta Vigo who enjoyed a very fruitful domestic season in 2015/16, finishing sixth.
Speaking to HITC, Marco was keen to stress that he and Gil will look to explore these links, but as of yet have made no contact with the Spanish club:
“His intention is not to play in the Championship and look for teams in the Premier League and La Liga.
“We have not spoken with Celta, but in the past we have been negotiating and we know he is a player to their liking. They made an offer for him, but the Aston Villa did not accept it."
Gil's lack of first-team football in Villa's terrible campaign could thus prove a catalyst for his departure, with the Spaniard only featuring 27 times throughout the season and it is likely that one of their most skilful assets will seek a move away sooner rather than later.
