Liverpool have been tipped to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Pierre Hojbjerg by Bundesliga expert Lee Price.

With Mario Gotze's potential transfer to Liverpool hitting a stumbling block, the Reds could turn their attentions elsewhere and with Jurgen Klopp's in-depth knowledge of the Bundesliga, Pierre Hojbjerg could be the next port of call.

Hojbjerg has spent the season on loan at Schalke, playing 30 times for the side that eventually finished 5th in the Bundesliga on 52 points.

Having already played 15 times for his country at 20 years of age, the skilful Danish international has become hot property in German football.

Transfer speculation has accelerated after the player admitted he may move elsewhere to play first-team football.

Lee Price, who wrote the book: 'The Bundesliga Blueprint: How Germany became the Home of Football', has said Hojbjerg is a 'perfect option' for Liverpool.

“There’s a strong feeling that Klopp has missed out on Mario Gotze,” he told The Daily Star.

“The move was always an ambitious one but now it’s collapsed. Still, Klopp has kept a close eye on the Bundesliga since he left and has eyed up new targets.

“Hojbjerg announced that he will leave Bayern this summer and he would relish the opportunity to be developed by Klopp.

“He knows he isn’t ready to play in the Champions League just yet, which is why Liverpool is the perfect option.

“Hojbjerg is a real talent, a class act in midfield with bags of potential. He’s just the type of player Klopp likes.”
