Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil have been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Month and Player of the Month respectively for December.

In a month where Arsenal became leaders of the Premier League, winning four out of their five matches including a 2-1 home win over title rivals Manchester City, it was perhaps inevitable that Wenger would be nominated for the award.

He will go up against Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores - whose side lost one of their five matches, winning three including a stunning 3-0 win over Liverpool - Crystal Palace Alan Pardew and Leicester City's Claudio Ranieri, who has got the Foxes in the title race.

Ranieri's Leicester lost just once in December, a 1-0 defeat away at Liverpool, while they impressively won 3-2 away at Everton while also defeating champions Chelsea 2-1 on home soil.

Germany international and World Cup winner Ozil has slightly more competition to face off against, despite claiming an incredible five assists for Arsenal in what was a superb month for the club.

Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez found the net six times so is probably Ozil's biggest contender, while Watford's Odion Ighalo also had a lot of joy in front of goal, scoring five goals in the final month of the year.

Everton's Romelu Lukaku is also a serious competitor after also finding the net six times, Tottenham Hotspur's Dele Alli has been nominated after rave reviews, while Stoke City's Mark Arnautovic is also a contender after a successful month for the Potters.

The November winners of the prizes both went to Leicester City, as Jamie Vardy won his second consecutive Player of the Month gong for his unbelievable form in front of goal in the first half of the season, while Ranieri beat his competition to claim the prize for the managers.
