Potential Newcastle Line Up to Play Manchester United

Newcastle welcome Manchester United to St. James' Park on Tuesday night, hoping they'll be able to put in a similarly strong performance to their showing in the reverse of this fixture earlier in the season.

That match ended 0-0, but both teams really need to win this one given their respective current situations. Here's how the Magpies could line up.

Goalkeeper

Rob Elliot will continue in goal

Defence

  • Janmaat

  • Mbemba

  • Coloccini

  • Dummett

Fabricio Coloccini didn’t train on Monday and faces a fitness test before the game after picking up a hamstring injury in the weekend's loss at Watford. He was outstanding at Old Trafford earlier this season though, and if he is passed fit he'll start.

Daryl Janmaat and Paul Dummett could line up as full backs, with Chancel Mbemba partnering Coloccini (or a stand in) in the middle.

Midfield

  • Sissoko

  • Tioté

  • Colback

  • Wijnaldum

Cheick Tiote should figure alongside Jack Colback - who did train on Monday despite a fitness concern of his own. Moussa Sissoko should be given the chance to play on the right side once more and challenge whoever features on United's left side, while Georginio Wijnaldum is likely to line up on the opposite flank.

Forwards

  • Ayoze

  • Mitrovic

Ayoze Perez is likely to play off striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in the continued absence of Papiss Cisse, with both players tasked with doing the damage to United's defence in the final third.

Both scored in the recent win over Tottenham, and Steve McClaren will be hoping for more of the same from them here.
