Despite being only 20 years of age, Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has been named the 9th most influential figure in French football, three places above PSG star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to an article released by media outlet L'Equipe.

Many were surprised by £36m that the Red Devils paid Monaco for the services of Martial in September 2015 (a figure that could rise to as much as £58m) and those same critics will be as shocked by the striker's positioning in this latest list.

Martial has made an encouraging start to life in the Premier League, scoring on his debut against Liverpool in front of an ecstatic Old Trafford crowd. The French international has gone on to score 8 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions, posing as a bright light in what has been a less than spectacular season so far for Louis van Gaal's side.

For the national team, Martial has yet to score in his 6 caps, but already looks set to have booked himself a place in the squad for this summer's European Championships which are being held on home soil.
