European champions Barcelona are now free to register summer signings Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan to their playing squad after their year long transfer ban expired on Monday, reported ESPN.

Barcelona can now sign other new players and register them immediately, but will also welcome former Sevilla man Vidal and ex-Atletico Madrid star Arda to their playing staff several months after initially signing them. Arda is expected to take the number 7 shirt which was vacated by Pedro when he moved to Chelsea last summer.

Luis Enrique's side were handed the transfer ban for two consecutive transfer windows in December 2014 - after an initial delay from the summer before on appeal - for their actions in signing a host of youth players from other countries. The club had attempted to register Turan in mid-season after an injury to Rafinha, but their request was denied.

However, both players are now available to make their debuts on Wednesday, when Barcelona host local rivals Espanyol in the first leg of the Copa del Rey last 16.

Barca technical secretary Robert Fernandez said: "It has been a difficult four months as we have had two players who have been keen to play and we have wanted to see them in action.

"Still, these months have worked well in letting them get to know our style of play and the system."

Luis Enrique is looking forward to their respective debuts too, saying: "They are players with the right personality to play in this team."
