BARGAIN: The 15 Best Players Out of Contract This Summer

It's the new year. Those hangovers are being nursed and resolutions are in full swing. New year, new you right?

Well forget about all those promises you've drunkenly made to yourself whilst hugging a kebab at 3 o'clock in the morning and focus back on what's important. Football.

The January transfer window is wide open and that's all that matters. A whole host of top players are yet to commit their long term future to their respected clubs and here's 15 of the very best who can start negotiating deals with prospective clubs in the new year. Freebies are what life is all about...

15. Samir Handanovic

The Inter Milan shotstopper is well worth a punt when you consider his wealth of experience and the fact he'd cost less than a McDonalds Happy Meal.

The Slovenian has 81 appearances for the national side and has turned out over 300 times in Serie A. Snap him up!

14. Victor Valdes

The Spaniard's plight at Old Trafford has been well documented, after being ousted out of all first-team duties by Louis van Gaal.

The former Barcelona 'keeper is probably going to be on the move in the next couple of weeks and would be a great signing for any Premier League club looking to sure things up at the back.

13. Patrice Evra

Another world class player who is available on a free will be Juventus full-back Patrice Evra. The Frenchman offers a wealth of experience and has five Premier League titles to his name.

The left-sided defender's contract with the Italian champions is up in the summer and any club would be foolish to miss the opportunity to enter into pre-contract negotiations with the 34-year-old.

12. Branislav Ivanovic

The Chelsea right-back has endured a torrid time this season with the Blues, with the fault of many goals falling directly at the feet of the Serbian.

At 31, the Blues man has just the six months left on his current deal considering the west Londoner's policy of offering just one-year deals to over thirties. If his form continues, he'll no doubt be on the way out of Stamford Bridge.

11. Andrea Barzagli

Another Juve defender in the frame, Andrea Barzagli offers leadership and experience along with the ball-playing defender ability that has seen him sit comfortably at the heart of the Bianconeri defence.

The 34-year-old is in the latter stages of his career but nevertheless would be more than capable of seeing out a few more years at the top level.

10. Michael Carrick

An ever-stay in the great United teams of old, Michael Carrick would be a coup should he be snapped up for free by any side.

The Englishman is a midfield general, and despite his age, could sit comfortably in the middle of the park for clubs across Europe.

9. Mikel Arteta

Despite the reports the Spaniard has been offered a coaching role with the Gunners, the lure of first-team football could provide enough to bring the midfielder to move.

Arteta has been a revelation since his move from Everton and his leadership skills are second to none. This could be the deal of the summer if it happens.

8. Ever Banega

Anyone who has ever spent a lonely night (or a hundred) playing Football Manager will be familiar with the former wonderkid who now plies his trade Sevilla.

The Argentine is just 27 and has a few years left in him to make it to fulfill his early promise. Watch this space.

7. Hatem Ben Arfa

There was a time when Hatem Ben Arfa couldn't catch a break - unless that break was his belt as his waist rapidly expanded. Now, the Frenchman is once again hot property in Europe following a spell with Nice.

This has already seen him earmarked with moves to Europe's top clubs, including Real Madrid, as his career looks set to hit new heights. It's like it's 2005 all over again...

6. Sofiane Feghouli

Having made 133 appearances for Valencia, the 25-year-old's contract is set to expire in the summer and would be a top addition to any side.

The pacy forward would be a welcome addition to the Premier League, and if he costs as much as the air we breathe, what more could be asked?

5. Gaston Ramirez

Having suffered a massive drop in form, the Uruguayan speedster has found himself out of favour at St Marys under Ronald Koeman.

However, the 25-year-old, who spent the season on loan at Hull City last season, boasts top-flight experience and shouldn't be quaffed at.

4. Nick Powell

The United man has recently found his way back into the Red Devils set up after becoming a forgotten man in English football.

Still just 22, if he's denied more first team opportunities with the Old Trafford outlet, the Englishman will no doubt look to leave to revive his career.

3. Ezequiel Lavezzi

The Argentine, on his day, is still one of the top attacking players in the world and his contract coming to an end has already attracted the interest of top Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool.

The PSG winger has notched up 34 goals for the French champions, an impressive feat having played second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for most of his tenure in Paris.

2. Joel Campbell

Arsenal took a big risk bringing Joel Campbell back to the Emirates after letting him out on loan throughout much of his Gunners career since signing back in 2011.

His form, when afforded game time, has been decent and he's netted twice already this season. Worth a punt if Arsene Wenger doesn't tie him down to a new deal.

1. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Saving the best until last, Swedish legend and footballing great Zlatan Ibrahimovic looks set to leave Paris in the summer as his contract with the Ligue 1 champions draws to a close.

Even at 34, Zlatan has the pick of most of Europe's top clubs, and whilst a move to former sides AC Milan and Inter have been touted, it would be great for English football to finally see the talismanic hitman grace these shores. Let's all pray...
