Liverpool are competing with Turkish outfit Fenerbahce to sign Juventus defender Martin Caceres, according to Italian publication Tuttosport.

The Uruguayan international has struggled with injury problems this season and was also suspended by the club for a drink driving incident.

Caceres crashed his Ferrari into a bus stop and two other vehicles while under the influence of alcohol in September, and while his suspension has now been served he has not won his place back in the team.

In fact, Caceres has only played twice in Serie A for the Italian champions this season. He played in back-to-back games against Roma and Chievo either side of the first international break of the season in August and September, while he also featured in the Italian Super Cup win over Lazio.

Jurgen Klopp is said to see the player as an ideal man to come in and boost his defence, given the issues and injury problems Liverpool have had in the position of late. Caceres can play at both centre half and right back, while at 28 years old he still has a number of his best years ahead of him.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is said to be willing to let the player go when the window re-opens in the new year, and the Reds could make their move soon. However, Fenerbahce are also interested in signing the player too and ending his spell in Turin.

Caceres has played for the likes of Barcelona and Sevilla in the past.
