Wayne Rooney misses Manchester United's crucial Champions League game with Wolfsburg tonight through injury and took the opportunity to take his eldest son Kai to Goodison Park last night to watch his boyhood club. Rooney came through the ranks at Everton and it wouldn't be a massive shock if he ended finishing his career with the blues. Rooney watched on as Everton drew the game 1-1 with Crystal Palace.
Rooney sat out United's 0-0 draw with West Ham on Saturday and was again pictured in the stands with Kai. Kai is probably getting to the age now where he understands what his dad does for a job and starting to show a interest in football. It wouldn't surprise me if Rooney wanted his children to see him play in an Everton shirt before he retires. Though Wayne will be hoping he won't be retiring for a long time yet. This may be something he's starting to think about if not already.
Rooney made an appearance in an Everton shirt just days before the start of the season, when he feature in Duncan Ferguson's testimonial against Villarreal in August. Rooney has been granted a testimonial at Old Trafford at the end of this season, though the opponents for that game haven't been announced, it is widely expected that United will play Everton. Will that game will Rooney's last in a United shirt before a return to Everton?
Rooney seems to split opinion among fans and pundits. With some saying that he has been performing for United for several seasons and is coming towards the end of his days not just at United but maybe in his career. While others believe that the system United are currently playing under Louis Van Gaal isn't helping Wayne play to the best of his ability. Believing that even the best in the world would struggle to score goals in this United team.
