The tallest ever professional footballer is Kristof van Hout, a goalkeeper in the Belgian league, who stands at an incredible 6 foot and 10 inches.
Although there has never been a Premier League player of that height, there have been some absolute giants in England's top flight. Here are the top seven...
7. Lacina Traore
Height: 6 ft 8in - 2.03m
Lacina Traore made history last season when he signed on loan for Everton, by becoming the tallest outfield player and joint tallest in Premier League history.
The Ivorian only managed one league appearance during a injury-ridden six month loan spell on Merseyside and the "Gentle Giant" has remained at Monaco for the current season.
6. Costel Pantilimon
Height: 6 ft 8in - 2.03m.
The Premier League's joint tallest ever player is Sunderland's current second choice keeper, Costel Pantilimon. The Romanian international plays second fiddle to Vito Mannone on Wearside, but did make his debut for the Black Cats in the Capitol One Cup last month.
Measuring at 6 feet and 8 inches, the 26 year old is a giant that towers over tall centre backs and strikers when defending a corner. He has a reputation as a solid keeper but is rarely given an opportunity to showcase his talents, despite his move away from Manchester City.
5. Stefan Maierhofer
Height: 6 ft 7.5 in - 2.02m.
The Austrian international signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers for £1.8 million in 2009, after an impressing scoring record at Rapid Vienna. Yet, he failed to recreate that form for Wolves though and was shipped off to Germany after just one season at Molineux.
Despite standing at the same height as fellow striker Zigic, Maierhofer was not clinical in front of goal in the Premier League and only found the net on one occasion during his eight appearances.
4. Nikola Zigic
Height: 6 ft 7.5 in - 2.02m.
The giant Serbian striker played just one season in the Premier League for Birmingham City, before the Blues were relegated two seasons ago. The 32 year old did manage to taste glory at Wembley though and scored as Birmingham defeated Arsenal 2-1 in the 2011 Carling Cup final.
He only managed five goals in the top flight, but has continued scoring for the Blues in the Championship. Unlike the lanky Crouch, Zigic has a broad figure to make him a physically more challenging opponent to face.
3. Peter Crouch
Height: 6 ft 7 in - 2.01m.
Peter Crouch is probably the best tall player to ever play in the Premier League and he is also the tallest player to have represented the English national team. The Stoke City striker is often condemned for his irregular attribute but his goalscoring record speaks for itself.
22 goals in 42 England appearances, coupled with over 150 competitive goals for the likes of Liverpool, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur are proof of Crouch's brilliance as a football player.
2. Kostas Chalkias
Height: 6 ft 6.5 in - 1.99m.
Chalkias stands at exactly the same height as Hangeland, but had somewhat of a less successful Premier League spell in comparison to the ex-Fulham man.
The now retired Greek keeper only played five Premier League games for Pompey, before he was dropped from the first team. The bumbling and erratic goalkeeper stayed at Fratton Park for one season, before moving back to his native Greece.
1. Brede Hangeland
Height 6 ft 6.5 in - 1.99m
First up is current Crystal Palace centre back Brede Hangeland. The Norwegian international, who moved across London to Selhurst Park in the summer following Fulham's relegation, is the league's tallest defender.
Rarely does the 33-year-old get beaten in the air and this has stood him and good stead in the top flight, in which has forged out a career spanning eight seasons now.
