Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, has said that it is possible that the Camp Nou will change the name in the next sponsorship contract, which “Qatar Airways” is negotiating with Barcelona. "Everything is possible for our company, we are open to surprises and one of them could be the name of the Camp Nou" – Al Baker said in the presentation of the latest TV commercial for the company.

The CEO of Qatar Airways said that his company and Barcelona have the same values. Vice-president of Barcelona, Javier Faus explained that he only feels "gratitude" for the Qatari airline. Faus also revealed that at the start of next season Barcelona will be negotiating for a new sponsorship deal, as the current agreement expires in 2016. "We need a new sponsor, we don’t have problems with Qatar, so it will be a quick decision" - said Barcelona's vice-president.

The sponsorship contract between two sides was signed in summer 2011, when Barcelona for the first time started wearing sponsor’s name on the front of the shirt. As a part of the deal, Barca earns 30 million euros per year, having signed five year contract worth €150m.
