Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy has lifted the toilet lid on 'poogate'​ - a mystery that's belly-rumbled on since May 2013.


McCarthy was part of an Eagles side that travelled to rivals Brighton in the Championship play-offs, only to find that someone had 'dropped their kids off' in the away dressing room.



Palace were incensed - as was then-Seagulls boss Gus Poyet, who launched an internal investigation - and responded with a not-so-dirty protest, winning the game 2-0 and progressing to the final which they went on to win.


With Brighton dumped out of the promotion hunt Poyet tendered his resignation, as speculation over who was responsible refused to be flushed away. Even the Uruguayan's name was floated about as a possible suspect.


But thanks to McCarthy, we can finally wipe the atrocity from our minds. The Irishman revealing at a Q&A this week that it was not a Brighton player after all - but the Eagles coach driver, who was suffering from a dicky tummy...
