QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has issued a statement apologising for the public row between manager Harry Redknapp and midfielder Adel Taarabt.

​​The Premier League club posted the statement on their ​website on Tuesday evening following a slanging match between the two. The pair could both face a fine for their part in the incident, which Fernandes says has 'embarrassed' the club.

The statement read: ​“As a club, we are fully aware of stories in the press over the last few days regarding Harry Redknapp and Adel Taarabt.

"We regret these issues being played out in public and both Harry Redknapp and Adel Taarabt have been notified of our disappointment regarding their handling of the situation. I have spoken to them both personally.

“On behalf of the club, I would like to apologise to the QPR supporters for the embarrassment this has caused and confirm that the issue has been dealt with internally. The club’s entire focus is now on the Aston Villa fixture next Monday and hopefully after a tough few days we can turn a negative into a positive and build on Sunday’s improved display.”

​​The war had erupted in the wake of QPR's weekend defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League, with Redknapp accusing the Moroccan of being 'three stone overweight' - and that being the reason why he was left out of the squad for the match at Loftus Road.

Taarabt responded by revealing pictures to disprove his manager, whilst also revealing he was 'furious' with the fact that he was left out of the weekend clash.

Redknapp would then rebuttal with a fresh attack - labelling the former Tottenham man as 'the worst professional I have ever come across', prompting Fernandes to publicly clarify the club's stance on matters.
