Final fact: Erling Haaland is a very, very good striker. He is so good, in fact, that he has now hit more Champions League goals - in his 12 games - than some of the biggest names in football history, after his brace in Dortmund's 3-0 victory over Club Brugge on Tuesday.

It's probably no surprise that the man known for helping anyone other than himself score goals, has bagged fewer strikes than our sensational wonderkid.

Olivier Giroud is so good at what he does, he even helped France win the World Cup in 2018 without finding the net as their main striker. So, 13 goals on the European stage for Arsenal and Chelsea isn't bad going, I suppose.

A man who loved to terrorise defenders, Carlos Tevez did not enjoy so much success in the Champions League. Starting his career in England at West Ham United certainly didn't help matters.

Having said that, the Argentine did manage to lift the prestigious trophy during his two years at Manchester United, scoring four goals in their run to the final victory over Chelsea.

For an extremely brief spell, Adriano threatened to become one of the greatest strikers to have played the game. His short stint as an elite athlete left its mark on us all, shining brightly for a few wonderful years at Italian giants Inter.

The Brazilian forward crashed home 14 Champions League goals during his time at the top, before ultimately succumbing to fitness issues, caused by tragedy and grief. An incredible player, and a lost legend of the game.

7. Miroslav Klose - 14 Goals

Known as a prolific and clinical goalscorer throughout his career, it may come as a shock that we find Miroslav Klose on this list. He appeared in the tournament for both Bayern and Werder Bremen, hitting half of his tally in the 2008/09 edition alone.

Although, I'm sure Klose won't lose any sleep at night now that Haaland has overtaken his Champions League record of 14 goals. After all, he can tell the Norwegian starlet to come back when he's got 16 of the buggers in World Cup competitions.

One of the greatest Spanish forwards to have ever entertained us, and part of what is widely regarded as the greatest club team of all time, David Villa is a living legend.

He did score in the 2011 Champions League final, as Barcelona saw off Man Utd with complete ease, but that strike was one of only 14 during his time in Europe's elite contest.

5. Zinedine Zidane - 14 Goals

Zinedine Zidane was not a striker, so it feels pretty harsh to have his name on the list. But having hit 14 goals in the Champions League, he is one of the many players that Haaland surpassed on Tuesday evening.

Still, the Frenchman is the holder of the greatest goal ever scored in a Champions League final (sorry Gareth Bale), and has won the trophy as a manager more times than Haaland has had school dinners.

What a majestic player. Ronaldo is often considered to be the greatest striker in history, dazzling at Inter, then destroying at Real Madrid. Injuries halted his progress and eventually brought him to his knees, but for a while, it looked as if we were staring at the next Pele or Diego Maradona.

14 goals don't tell the whole story of this brilliant Brazilian, and as with Adriano, we are left wondering 'what might have been', despite still enjoying an incredibly successful and trophy-filled career.

Now 27 years old, Paulo Dybala is probably disappointed to be stuck on 15 Champions League goals. The Argentine has been tipped for greatness for many years, but it hasn't quite happened.

He did score a sensational brace for Juventus against Barcelona in 2017, which showed the world just what he was capable of on his day. We're still waiting for Part II of that particular act.

Yeah, we might not be seeing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back in this tournament for quite some time. The Gabonese forward smashed 15 goals in Europe for Dortmund, and he was a red hot prospect in the transfer market.

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is a fantastic player, a crafty link between midfield and attack - but not a prolific scorer. That edge has disappeared from his game of late, while the statistics of teammates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane continue to rise.

The Brazil international is currently sitting on 15 goals, but he is in with a shout of edging ahead of Haaland in the list over the coming match days. I wouldn't bet on it, mind, with the relentless form the Norwegian striker is demonstrating.
