Barcelona have confirmed Pau Cubarsi has put pen to paper on a new contract to tie himself to the club until 2027.

The 17-year-old was promoted to Xavi's senior setup this season and has quickly established himself as a regular starter, with 17 of his 20 appearances to date coming from the first whistle.

With a number of Europe's elite sides beginning to express interest, Barcelona have worked quickly to tie Cubarsi down to a new three-year contract with a significantly improved salary.

Cubarsi's deal now includes a release clause of €500m (£430m) to ensure Barcelona do not find themselves forced to give him up any time soon.

After he turns 18 in January 2025, Cubarsi is expected to see the terms of his deal improve further, with AS stating his next deal has already been agreed and will run until 2029.

Barcelona's agreement with Cubarsi is similar to that of fellow teenage starlet Lamine Yamal, who has already thrashed out the terms of his first senior contract.

Still only 16 years old, Yamal currently remains on a deal which runs until 2026 but Barca sporting director Deco recently revealed they already have an agreement with the winger to keep him at the club for "the next eight years".

Talks are also underway over an extension for full-back Hector Fort, who remains on a youth contract.

Fort, 17, has made eight appearances for Xavi's side this season, and reports suggest Barcelona are confident they will soon tie the right-back down to fresh terms.
