Sam Kerr has hit another milestone in her illustrious career by getting her very own signature boots.

The Chelsea and Australia striker has teamed up with Nike to launch her first-ever Player Edition Mercurial Superfly, a design that pays tribute to her home country, her career, and one of her biggest sporting idols.

The boots arrive in a light sandy base, a nod to Australia’s beaches, with flashes of teal, pink and orange running through them to mirror the ocean, sunsets and rocky landscapes.

“The colors of the boot are what I think of when I think of home: Perth’s ocean and sunsets,” Kerr explained. “It’s a reminder of where I’m from.”

Personal touches are scattered throughout the design, including her trademark mantra “Consistent” etched across the upper in tattoo-like script, and subtle references to her style of play (“Forever Forward”) and her West Australian roots (“Perth Swagger”).

Perhaps the most striking detail is the bold stripe that cuts down the toe of the boot, inspired by Cathy Freeman’s unforgettable gold medal run at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. At the top of the stripe, there’s a small tribute to Freeman’s victory – a nod to an athlete Kerr has long cited as one of her heroes.

Her signature is stamped onto the heel to round off the design, giving every pair the feel of being personally signed.

Nike are also rolling out a wider collection to go with the boot. A Field General sneaker echoes the same colour palette and includes Kerr’s personal messages stitched into the tongue and upper, while an oversized fleece hoodie comes in teal and features phrases tied to her career – “Be Who I Am, Be Who You Are,” “Golden in 2017,” “You Just Never Know,” and “Me vs The World.”

For a player who has been at the top of the women’s game for over a decade, it feels long overdue. But with a design this personal, vibrant and symbolic, it’s clear the wait has only made the end result that much sweeter.
