Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo has reflected on his stunning goals against Wolves and Liverpool during his breakout season at Old Trafford.

It's been a turbulent Premier League campaign for United with bright spots few and far between, but Mainoo's emergence has been a beacon of hope for the future amid the Red Devils' struggles.

Two of the 19-year-old's standout moments were his exceptional goals against Liverpool and Wolves.

Erik ten Hag's side seemed destined to share the spoils with Wolves in February when Pedro Neto found the back at Molineux, the score locked at 3-3 approaching the final whistle.

However, in the 97th minute, Mainoo skilfully evaded Joao Gomes, nutmegged the advancing Max Kilman and manoeuvred into the penalty area before curling the ball into the corner.

"When I got the ball, I just saw the defender coming out so I just wanted to meg him," Mainoo told The Telegraph. "Once I got the meg, I thought it was happening. Omari [Forson] had made the run so it was just on to get the shot on. That was a nice first Prem goal.”

Last month, Mainoo was on the scoresheet again in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool, exceptionally finding the net with his back to goal. The finish drew subsequent comparisons with Federico Macheda's iconic strike against Aston Villa in 2009.

"You know where the goal is, so when the touch went there I knew it was on," Mainoo added. "There were a lot of players so the keeper couldn't see a lot. When I saw the comparisons [with Macheda] it was mad to see."

These spectacular goals in a season of disappointment will likely secure Mainoo a regular spot in United's starting lineup next term.

The youngster is also poised to represent England at Euro 2024 this summer following his inclusion in Gareth Southgate's provisional 33-player squad for the tournament in Germany.
