Inter secured the 2023/24 Serie A title after defeating local rivals AC Milan at San Siro on Monday night.

Francesco Acerbi's 18th-minute header set the Nerazzurri on their way before Marcus Thuram made it 2-0 at the start of the second half.

Though Fikayo Tomori was on hand to half the deficit late on and prompt a nervy finale - which included red cards for Theo Hernandez, Denzel Dumfries and Davide Calabria - Simone Inzaghi's side held firm to record the club's 20th top-flight Italian championship.

They can no longer be caught by Stefano Pioli's Rossoneri, who sit 17 points behind in second place with only five games left to play.

Inter's title triumph - their first since Antonio Conte's outfit managed the feat in 2020/21 - also helped the club leapfrog AC Milan for total Serie A title wins, reaching 20 compared to their Derby della Madonnina foes' 19. They have lost just one league game all season, coming against Sassuolo back in September.

Defending champions Napoli never threatened to repeat their 2022/23 heroics, suffering from all sorts of different off-field drama. After manager Luciano Spalletti left, both Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri were sacked for poor performances before Slovakia head coach Francesco Calzona was handed the reins for the remainder of the campaign.

Juventus were too inconsistent to mount a title charge, while surprise package Bologna look set to take fourth place or perhaps even snatch third.

Lautaro Martinez's 23 Serie A goals have been pivotal to Inter's successful season, while Marcus Thuram has proved to be a more than shrewd signing on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach, contributing 12 strikes of his own.

Inter are comfortably both the top scorers in Italy's top flight this season with 79 goals and boast the the most frugal defence, conceding only 18.
