Barcelona had shocked the footballing world earlier in the summer after they confirmed that they would not be able to afford offering Messi a new contract, which led to the Argentina icon deciding to leave his boyhood club.
However, the 34-year-old has always maintained that he plans to return to Barcelona in the future and speaking to Marca he confirmed his intention of moving back to Spain.
"I always said that at some point I will return to Barcelona because it is my home and because I am going to live there. And obviously if I can contribute and help the club I would love to come back."
Messi has been touted as the favourite to win a seventh Ballon d'Or award this year, considering that he was the standout player for a poor Barcelona side while also leading Argentina to their first Copa America title since 1993.
The striker recently opened his account for PSG in the Ligue 1 after a slow start to life in Paris, and it will be interesting to see whether he can lead the club to their maiden Champions League title come the end of the season.
