FC Goa head coach, Juan Ferrando has sent a warning to his side ahead of their final 2021 AFC Champions League Group E game against Al Wahda, claiming that they cannot "think this is the last game and relax".
The Gaurs have already been knocked out of the tournament and have no chance of progressing after three draws and two defeats in their previous matches but they will like to finish their maiden campaign on a high with a win against the second-placed Emirati club who have the top position to play for.
“We know that it’s a difficult game because Al Wahda have a good chance to finish on top. We prepare one plan but it’s difficult because of problems with players’ injuries, they are very tired. But of course our target is to be competitive in the next game and try to get three points," Ferrando said in the pre-match press conference.
“In football, we need to think [about] three points. It’s going to be difficult, it’s a great opportunity for Al Wahda to participate in the next round. For us, we are thinking about the third position. We can’t think this is the last game and relax. This is the AFC Champions League, we need to be strong and participate, find the best XI tomorrow and prepare a tactical plan," he added.
The Gaurs became the first club from India to participate in the AFC Champions League and will look to learn lessons and take points from their maiden outing in what is Asia's biggest club competition.
