Manchester United legend and current Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has said the Red Devils have a 'good shot at winning the Premier League' next season.

Man Utd finished second, behind eventual champions Manchester City, in the Premier League table last season, and the Old Trafford-based outfit will be aiming to reach the summit next season.

They are set to bolster their squad ahead of next season, with Jadon Sancho transfer imminent, and they have also been linked with moves for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane and Atletico Madrid full-back and England international Kieran Trippier.

And, Rooney says his former side have a 'good shot' at finishing next season as champions of English top-flight.

"United fans will be excited with Sancho coming in, I’m sure there will be one or two more who come in,” Rooney told talkSPORT.

The 35-year-old added: "I know the club very well, they’ll have expectations on themselves, expectations from the fans to be successful in a year which Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] will be looking at and really having a good shot at winning the Premier League."

Meanwhile, Rooney was speaking after Derby County and Man Utd played a pre-season friendly, which the latter won 2-1.
