Wayne Rooney has reportedly emerged as a shock candidate for the Newcastle United job as the team's new owners look to replace Steve Bruce.
The Magpies' new Saudi Arabian owners have drawn up a managerial shortlist following their £300m takeover earlier this month.
The report has claimed that the former Manchester United star is "in the frame" to charge at St. James' Park.
Derby County went into administration and were hit with a 12-point deduction, sending them to the bottom of the Championship. Rooney has already led them back into positive points, however, his future continues to remain murky.
When asked about his future after the 3-2 defeat by Tottenham, Steve Bruce said: "I'll wait until they see fit and we'll see what they are going to say. You better ask somebody else about that one."
