Juventus' Serie A title hopes are all but over as they fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Benevento in Serie A.

The Old Lady are now 10 points behind league leaders Inter Milan, having played the same number of games in the Italian top-flight.

Andrea Pirlo's men might have started the game hoping for an easy win over Benevento, but they struggled to break the visitor's organized defence and create clear cut opportunities.

Cristiano Ronaldo put the ball on the back of the net in the 36th minute of the match, but the goal was ruled out as the Portuguese hitman was in an offside position when Dejan Kulusevski delivered the cross.

Benevento took the lead in the 69th minute after capitalising on a mistake by Arthur Melo. The Brazilian's attempt to play the ball across his own penalty box was intercepted by Adolfo Gaich, who held off Danilo's challenge before firing the ball past Wojciech Szczęsny into the Juventus net.

Juventus intensified their attack in search of an equaliser but Benevento defended heroically to thwart the defending league champions. Benevento goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò, in particular, stood out as he tipped over Ronaldo's attempt from close range in the 80th minute and denied the Portuguese's shot at goal in the 90th minute.
