Atletico Madrid came from behind to beat Real Valladolid 2-1 on matchday 38 to become the new La Liga champions.

Diego Simeone's side were the favourites to win the title, and they did what they needed to in their final league game of the season to dethrone Real Madrid as the champions of Spain.

Atletico, though, were in for a shock start as they conceded on 18 minutes, with Oscar Plano putting Valladolid ahead in the game.

The scoreline remained the same at half-time, but Los Rojiblancos turned it around in the second-half to seal victory and the title.

Angel Correa levelled scorecard on 57 minutes, and Luis Suarez - yes, Luis Suarez - found the back of the net 10 minutes later to give Atletico the lead.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid, who took the La Liga title race to the final matchday, pulled off a late comeback against Villarreal.

Karim Benzema and Luka Modric scored in the 87th and 90+2nd minutes to register a win against Villarreal, who had gone ahead through Yeremi Pino's goal on 20 minutes.

The victory over Villarreal, though, was not enough for Real Madrid, who also needed Atletico Madrid to slip up against Valladolid, which did not happen.

Here's how Twitter reacted to Atletico Madrid becoming the champions, Luis Suarez proving his worth, and Real Madrid finishing second.
