Ruslan Malinovskiy scored a deflected goal late in the match as Atalanta condemned Juventus to a 1-0 defeat in the Serie A and climbed to third in the points table.

The defeat leaves Juventus fourth, two points behind Atalanta and three points ahead of fifth-placed Napoli, who have a game in hand.

The Old Lady were without their star man and top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo, who was ruled out of the clash with an injury to his flexor, and, in the Portuguese international's absence, Andrea Pirlo's side could only manage one shot on goal throughout the match.

It was not only Juventus who found it hard to have shots on target, with Atalanta managing just two, of which one found the back of the net. It was also a testament to both teams' defence, who held their fort strong.

However, when it seemed the the game might be petering out to a goalless draw, Malinovskiy put Atalanta ahead as his shot deflected off Alex Sandro and into the net in the 87th minute, leaving Wojciech Szczęsny helpless in Juve's goal.

The Bianconeri had only little time to respond, but despite their earnest efforts, they could not find an equaliser as Atalanta edged them out for three crucial points and leapfrogged them in the points table.
