The winter transfer window is shut, but rumours are still making the rounds ahead of the summer. The dates for the summer transfer window have not been announced yet, but with the Premier League slated to finish on Sunday, May 23, the transfer window is most likely to reopen on Monday, June 1.
Top clubs across Europe are still looking to boost their squad ahead of the new season, and clear out their wage bill as well. With that in mind, here's a look at the latest transfer rumours from around the world.
Manchester City lead Haaland race
Manchester City are reportedly leading the race to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer, ahead of Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United, who were also keen on landing the prolific striker.
According to the Daily Mail, United are reluctant to enter into a bidding war for the Norwegian and are apprehensive about dealing with the player's agent, Mino Raiola, and his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, who spent three years playing for City in the Premier League. Pep Guardiola's side have reportedly already made contact with Haaland, but Chelsea are looking to pull off a major coup by signing him when the transfer window opens.
Zidane responds to Ronaldo rumours
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane was reluctant to speculate on whether Cristiano Ronaldo could return to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, but insisted he remains a big fan of the player.
Ronaldo is approaching the final 12 months of his Juventus contract, and Zidane was asked if he would like to be able to manage the 36-year-old again. "We all know what he means for the club, what he did for the club," he said.
"I coached Ronaldo, he's part of the club's history, his contribution was magnificent but right now he's a Juventus footballer and he's doing very well for the club and there's not much more I can add to all the things that have been said. He's a Juve footballer and I have to respect the club and the player."
Manchester United & Chelsea target Roma defender
Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly lining up an offer for Roma defender Gianluca Mancini, according to The Express.
Roma's finances have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and they be forced to part ways with the talented defender for just £27million.
Juventus, Milan, Roma target Icardi
Milan, Juventus, and Roma are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi, according to La Repubblica.
The Serie A trio are monitoring his contract situation at the Ligue 1, and could make an offer for him in the summer.
