Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly agreed a deal worth £43million with Atalanta to sign defender, Cristian Romero with Football Italia claiming that the two sides are in "total agreement" and that the asking price is nearly fulfilled.
It is understood that Tottenham are closing in on signing the centre-back with £4m in bonuses apparently agreed on top of the flat initial fee and that Romero could join the Premier League outfit soon - depending on the personal terms agreed.
LaLiga giants, Barcelona were also said to be interested in signing the Argentinian, but their precarious financial situation at the moment meant that they would prefer a loan with option to buy and could not match the north London side's initial up-front offer.
New Tottenham manager, Nuno Espirito was understood to be very keen to add to his defensive options considering that Toby Alderweireld recently left the club for Qatar side, Al-Duhail.
The 23-year-old is widely considered as one of the best young defenders in the world and was at the forefront recently as he played a key role in Argentina's 2021 Copa America title win. The centre-back came to prominence last season while he was at loan at Atalanta, making 42 appearances in all competitions - where he was named the best defender in the Serie A.
