Luka Modric has stated there is nothing better than being a Real Madrid player as he expressed delight at renewing his contract with Los Blancos.

Modric, who joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2012, recently put pen to paper on a new contract at the Spanish side, that extended his stay until 2022.

The next season will be Modric's 10th at Real Madrid, and the Croatian midfielder admitted he did not expect that, when he first arrived at the club, aged 27.

"It means a lot to me, it fills me with pride. It means I'll have been here 10 years, which I didn't expect because I was 27 years old when I arrived and the demands at this club are massive if you are to deserve to stay," Modric told Real Madrid TV [via Marca].

"There's nothing better than being a Real Madrid player, playing at the [Estadio Santiago] Bernabeu... there's nothing better.

"Everyone wants to come here and I'm going to have been here for 10 years."

Modric also claimed what Real Madrid in those nine years since he arrived is 'unrepeatable'. He said: "There are many beautiful moments: winning the 10th Champions League, and winning the double in 2016/17 was great.

"[The year of] 2018 was incredible on a personal level, the Champions League final I enjoyed most was Cardiff [in 2017].

"What we've done in these nine years is unrepeatable. You think about the four Champions Leagues and, if I'm honest, I didn't expect it."
