Manchester United have remained active in the transfer market ever since the legendary, Sir Alex Ferguson decided to retire from management in 2013, with the fortunes of the club dipping at an alarming rate since then.
The Red Devils have in the seven years since Ferguson left have tried to get back to their status as the best club in England by splurging staggering amounts of money on players, but it has just not worked out for them.
However, there have been some players who very brilliant, impressing the fans with their skills and performances on the pitch. Here, we take a look at five of United's best signings since Ferguson's retirement.
1. Bruno Fernandes
That United qualified for the 2020/21 Champions League can be solely attributed to the brilliance of Bruno Fernandes, who established himself as their talisman, despite only arriving in the January transfer window of 2020.
The Portugese midfielder is without doubt the club's most important player and has been in sensational form for them, scoring 18 goals in 33 games - a feat which is brilliant considering that he is a midfielder by trade.
2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The hype surrounding Zlatan Ibrahimovic on his arrival at Old Trafford was immense and the Super Swede lived up to the hype by scoring 29 goals in 58 appearances for the club, including a brace against Southampton in the final of the EFL Cup in his debut season to lead United to the trophy.
Unfortunately, he suffered a serious injury which saw him miss the last stages of the Europa League, and despite signing a new one-year deal with the Red Devils, he eventually moved to MLS side, La Galaxy in March, 2018.
3. Ander Herrera
It came as a surprise to many that Manchester United allowed Ander Herrera to leave the club in 2019, considering that he was one of the few successful signings in the post-Fergie era. The Spaniard who joined the Red Devils in 2014, was a hard-working midfielder, who gave his all in a United shirt.
The 31-year-old who plays for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, made 189 appearances for the Red Devils.
4. Juan Mata
One of the veterans of the club, Juan Mata arrived at Old Trafford in 2014 after being named the Chelsea's Player of the Year twice in the preceding years to his transfer. The Spaniard quickly became the heartbeat of the side, pulling the strings from midfield and played an important role in some of their success.
With 261 appearances for the club, he is no doubt very well respected by the Old Trafford faithful.
5. Romelu Lukaku
While many may not put Romelu Lukaku on the successful signings list, the Belgian did manage to score 42 goals for them, and his importance is being felt in the current situation - with United crying out for a prolific striker. The 27-year-old has shown his former side just what they are missing by scoring goals in droves for Inter Milan in Italy.
